The Shalom Christian Birthing Home invites you to join ACTION's team, delivering hope among the neglected poor.
A Vision is born
Shalom Christian Birthing Home was established by ACTION missionary, Mavis Orton, a retired nurse/midwife from England. Observing the exceptionally high maternal and infant mortality rates in the outskirts of Manila, Mavis opened her home to these at-risk mothers in order to provide a safe and dignified environment for childbirth. Nearby churches work closely with Shalom's staff - resulting in many mothers and their families experiencing spiritual rebirth and becoming active in a local church.
ACTION missionary nurses, Cindy Gingerich and Pami Ellis joined Mavis in 2002 and 2011 respectively.
Birth of a Team
We now have a good team of midwives and nurses: ACTION missionaries Mavis Orton, Cindy Gingerich, and Pami Ellis, and midwives Diana, Maricel, Maricor, Benneth, Jheny, and Angie. But we desire more missionary midwives to join the team.
Growing Pangs and Anxiously Awaiting the Arrival
When the clinic first opened, eight babies were born a month; now approximately 120-150 babies are born each month. We have limited space as we have only two rooms for our pre-natal, post-natal, check-ups and deliveries. Our desire and prayer is to build a larger facility to house a better birthing clinic that would provide check-ups, deliveries of babies, classrooms, and a laboratory. Funds were raised and 1,165 square meters of land was purchased for the new building.
The basic structure is complete, but we are praying for the remaining funds needed to furnish and outfit the new facility.
The new facility will provide the following services:
Delivery of baby
Parent skills teaching
Well baby clinic
