Steve has been a youth pastor for the last nine years, serving at Crossroads Bible Church in Bellevue, Washington for seven years, and Northlake Community Church in Bellingham, Washington, for the past two years. Steve and Stephanie participated in many short-term mission trips throughout their own high school and college years, and for the past nine years they have acted as leaders and facilitators of short-term trips for their high-school students. God has used these trips in a slow and steady way to cultivate in them a deeper understanding of God's heart for the world, and a desire to follow Him wherever He may lead. In February 2006, during a trip to Tijuana, Mexico with their youth group, their hearts were awakened to missions in a new and unmistakable way. They felt strongly that the Lord was asking them to be willing to go and to start praying about where that may be. Over the next seven months they prayed, talked to missionaries, read everything they could get their hands on about missions, researched mission agencies, and prayed some more. Their hearts were drawn towards Africa, and they were blessed to have some good friends introduce them to Action International Ministries.

Steve took a trip to Zambia in October and had an incredible time with the missionaries as well as teaching a two-day conference to 125 pastors and leaders on how to do inductive Bible study and expository preaching. Seeing firsthand the poverty and hopelessness, combined with ACTION ZAMBIA's commitment to mentor and teach pastors to meet the pressing needs, they felt confirmed that God has indeed led them to Lusaka, Zambia to work with these pastors. Stephanie will continue to home school Kamryn (7), Bradyn (5), and Julia (3), and she is excited to dive into Zambian life and discover how the Lord wants to use her and her girls there.
