Before coming to Mexico, Scott was a high school English teacher working with at-risk youth and a basketball coach, and Shona was a home school mom and a part time public health nurse. As a family they lived and ministered in inner city Pomona, California where through their local church (Pomona First Baptist), started and directed a childrens' mentoring/homework club, which continues to reach out to at-risk Mexican children and their families.
In 2005, the Henderson’s moved to Texcoco, Mexico (just outside of Mexico City) and partnered with two local churches to do childrens' Bible clubs, home Bible studies, and youth work for five years. After training Mexican leaders to take over their responsibilities, God called them to move to Puebla, Mexico, which is about 75 miles south east of Mexico City. In partnership with a local church and the ministry of Community Health Evangelism (CHE), they are currently working in a poor community (San Cristobal) on the outskirts of the city doing holistic community development with a focus on children. As the ministry is in its beginning stages, Scott and his children are teaching English in the local elementary school to 300 students and running a weekly sports/biblical values club as ways to build relationships, trust and credibility in the community. In addition, Shona has her hands full home schooling their three kids, teaching an art class at a deaf school, and taking care of the home front.
