Phil was born in Baltimore, Maryland but has spent most of his adult life in Denver. Phil holds a Masters of Divinity from Denver Seminary and is ordained in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He worked in México before joining ACTION in 1996. Mariela was born in Bogotá, but spent her growing up years in Cartegena. She holds a degree in Social Work from External University, Bogotá. Phil and Mariela were married in Bogotá on May 29, 1999. Their primary work is with children at risk and Viva Network. Phil is the coordinator of the Oidores y Hacedores Workshops, which assist workers on how to teach and reach children for Christ.
