Jim and Kappy are from Central California, but relocated to Elgin, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in September of 2000. Jim left a prison ministry in California to minister in a day center for the homeless and needy in Elgin. In early 2002, Doug and Margi Nichols visited their church, Grace Community Bible Church, and shared about ACTION. Jim was not present that day, but Kappy was and for several months she urged Jim to listen to Doug's taped sermon. Jim did finally and they saw that it was God's will for them to apply to ACTION. Jim loves to teach and preach and Kappy loves children and rocking babies. Their previous experience includes ministry to the poor in rescue missions, prisons, nursing homes, hospitals and working with kids.

Jim and Kappy have taken the gospel to prisoners, missions, the sick, the homeless, and to churches. They have presented the gospel in various ways. This has included preaching, teaching, music, one-on-one friendships, food distribution, and leadership training. Years ago the Lord planted a desire in their hearts for overseas ministry. Their desire has increased and they see God's call clearly now to serve Him in Africa as career missionaries to the urban poor. Jesus has given them a love for Africans and zeal to see souls saved and served in Africa. The need for ministry to the peoples of these countries is urgent. Matthew 25 and Isaiah 58 compel them. Their vision to reach the Africans will be through ministry to street children, to the AIDS afflicted, to prisoners and to orphans.
