Tracy grew up in rural Missouri in a family of eight. While studying at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, he was brought to faith in Christ. Sensing God’s call, he transferred to Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois, where he received a BA in pastoral studies. Married in 1973 to Karen they spent fourteen years in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, where Tracy labored as a carpenter and served in their local church as youth worker and elder. In 1989 he and his family returned to Illinois where he attended seminary at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, earning a Master of Divinity degree.

After a fruitful ministry at the Evangelical Free Church of Mt. Morris, Illinois, for 12½ years, he and Karen felt God’s call to serve national pastors and ACTION missionaries in Zambia through teaching, training, and shepherding.

Karen, a city girl from St. Charles, Missouri, also transferred from Truman State University to Moody Bible Institute. At Moody she majored in communications with a writing emphasis. After Tracy’s graduation in 1975 from Moody they moved to Oklahoma where they raised their four children—Micah, Audrey, Neal, and Adam. A stay-at-home mom, Karen home-schooled their children and served in their local church as a Sunday school teacher in Oklahoma as well as in Illinois. In Tracy’s first pastorate in Mt. Morris, she wore many hats as a pastor’s wife, being involved in teaching, leadership, and women’s ministry.

Sensing a burden to arrive in Zambia by January 2008, they saw God go before them and raise the majority of their support in a few short months. On January 12, 2008, their feet touched Zambian soil in answer to God's call.

The first month of their term they lived with a family in Matero, one of Lusaka's compounds. The time spent there has proved to be invaluable in learning and understanding the Zambian culture.

Tracy presently teaches fifteen pastors and church leaders from various backgrounds in the ACTION Pastors College. A three-year program, APC requires these pastors to in turn teach others what they are learning. In addition, he leads the Pastoral Leadership Development team of ACTION Zambia. Recently, Tracy was appointed as a Deputy Director of AZ by its Director, Tim Hilty.

Wearing many hats, Karen assists her husband in his ministry as well as teaches language arts to seminary students. This subject is crucial to students as they study Greek and write papers.
