Thomas and Susanna and their five children live and work in São Paulo, Brazil, where they have served street children and their families since 1995. The Smoaks work with a 20-member Brazilian partner mission of ACTION's called ABBA which rescues abandoned children, searches for their families, works to reunite the children with their parents or relatives, and searches for viable family options when this is not possible. More recently ABBA has also worked to develop a foster care network rooted in local churches and to support needy families in high risk areas of Sao Paulo. The ministry depends on private donations and volunteers to run it's four children's homes and administrative support network.
