Mike arrived in Manila in March 1991 and completed language and culture study in September 1992. Mike ministered with Urban Street Ministries (now Street Impact Team) in Malibay, Pasay City, a squatter area where he also lived until 1995, and worked with a local church there. From 1996 to 2006, he ministered in Divisoria, Tondo, Manila, where he lived, planted Providence Baptist Church with the second Filipino he led to Christ, discipled men, and ministered to street children and the urban poor. In 2002, he set up Asia Pacific Family Foundation Inc. which established an orphan home, educational assistance for squatter children, and livelihood programs for the poor.
In 2003, he helped plant another church with the first Filipino he led to Christ, this time in Lipa City, Batangas (Santa Cruz Baptist Church). He also helped equip pastors and church workers through one-on-one discipleship, pastors’ conferences, and literature distribution. Mike is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. God opened his heart to the Gospel while serving with the United States Marine Corps. He served on staff with the Navigators at Glen Eyrie, Colorado Springs, Colorado. He came on with ACTION in 1990 after hearing Doug Nichols speak at his church.
God brought Rebecca to saving faith in 1990. In July 2005, she heard Doug Nichols preach at a church in Manila and started praying about Africa. She joined ACTION in February 2007.
Rebecca has been counseling and discipling women since February 1993 and has ministered to women in churches in the Philippines and abroad through Bible studies, seminars, retreats and conferences. In January 1997, she walked away from a 20-year career in human resources management and became a full-time, non-salaried church worker at Higher Rock Christian Church in Quezon City (where she served until February 2008). In December 1998, she set up Hagios House Ministries with six other women. It included the Bible Training Home, a discipleship dormitory for young adult women; Immanuel Family School, a Christian preschool ministering the Gospel to a largely Roman Catholic community; and Sola Scriptura, a book ministry promoting biblical Christ-exalting books for a God-honoring life and ministry. All these ministries were conducted along faith lines (ala George Mueller).
In 2005, Rebecca edited FaithWalk, a quarterly Christian digest published by the Communion of Christian Ministries (CCM). She has also served as the finance and administrative officer of two churches as well as CCM. Rebecca pursued an M.A. in Biblical Counseling at The Master’s College in California and completed all her courses except for her thesis.
Mike and Rebecca were married in May, 2007 and moved to Kampala, Uganda in April, 2010 where they focused on learning Luganda and Ugandan culture and discipling Ugandan men and women through their local church. In May 2012, Mike was named Country Director of ACTION Uganda. In August, Rebecca was appointed Finance & Administration Coordinator. May the Lord enable them to continue to serve Him in Uganda and to glorify Him in their life, marriage, and ministry!
