Tyler Dingman to Depart for Zambia

Tyler Dingman

Tyler Dingman writes, “I will be leaving for Lusaka on March 27! To say I am excited would be an understatement. I cannot thank those that have prayed, donated, and supported me. God has been leading me on an incredible journey for the last year.”

Tyler will be living and working at Ciyanjano Center outside of Lusaka helping to make the property economically sustainable as well as doing other things like media production, donor engagement, and research and development for future income generation projects. Please pray for him as he begins his life and ministry in Lusaka.

Christmas Outreach in Colombia

Children with Gifts

Raquel de Jesús, ACTION missionary in Colombia, writes, “On December 7 we held an evangelistic Christmas party for 100 children in Bella Flor barrio. The purpose of the party was to preach God’s word. The children learned that Jesus is with us and that His life is a gift that we do not deserve. The teaching was clear and God used the words spoken by Pastor Edwin to touch the hearts of the children.

“The children enjoyed singing songs after the teaching. They also participated in a game in which they had to answer questions about the teaching. It was very clear to us through their answers that they understood what Pastor Edwin had shared. At the end of the day, each child received a delicious meal and a gift. We pray that these children will continue to appreciate God’s teaching for the rest of their lives and that they will share the Lord in their homes and communities.”

Prayer for Zambian Girls

Zambian Girls

Karen Singleton, missionary in Lusaka, writes, “Zambian mothers carry their babies on their backs, wrapping them skillfully with a piece of colorful cloth. Several girls, imitating their mothers, caught my eye on a recent walk. They had their dolls strapped to their backs.

“While these girls may be playing, they are also preparing for their future roles as mothers, if God wills. Would you pray for God’s richest blessing on the lives of these girls and the Zambian people we work with on a daily basis?”

Feeding Hungry Children in Colombia

Eating Lunch

Raquel de Jesús, missionary in Bogotá, Colombia, strives to meet the physical needs of former street kids as she ministers to them spiritually through Bible study and discipleship. She runs a feeding program which provides these children with nutritious food to fill their bellies.

Would you please take a moment and lift these children up in prayer? Pray that each one will come to know the Lord and follow Him wholeheartedly.

Filipino Pastors Need Bibles and Christian Books

Filipino Pastors

Doug Nichols, ACTION Founder & International Director Emeritus, writes, “It is exciting to see how the many books sent to the Philippines last year are being used. We were able to pack and send nearly 50 large boxes filled with $75,000 to $100,000 worth of donated new and used study Bibles and books.

“We just received word that five boxes of books recently arrived in Manila and will be given to needy pastors in southern Philippines who lost everything in the recent floods.

“There are 40,000 untrained pastors and many more Christian workers in the Philippines earning less than $20 monthly. They have no funds to purchase books to help them study, teach, and preach the Word of God. Perhaps you could help gather evangelical books and Bibles (especially study Bibles) for shipment to the Philippines.

“As books are delivered to our office, we pack them in large boxes and send them by LBC Shipping to God’s people in the Philippines. Each large filled box weighs nearly 100 pounds, is valued at $2000, and shipped for only $55. This is a tremendous investment in the lives of many to the glory of God!”

Books can be sent to our office address:

Training Cambodian Pastors

Nathan Wells Teaching

Nathan and Christiana Wells are involved in discipleship, training, and translation work in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Nathan writes, “We recently held a training workshop for pastors, where Pastor Sopheak and I instructed several church leaders in the use of the Design for Discipleship books by the Navigators. I also taught two sessions on how to study the Bible, particularly on the relationship between exegesis and exposition.

“This was the first time that I have had the opportunity to pass on some of the teaching I received in seminary to pastors here. I cannot fully express the joy I experienced as I taught what has been entrusted to me to other faithful men and to see them encouraged and excited to learn more from God’s Word.

“In correlation with the workshop, we did a pre-release of the first three books of the Design for Discipleship series so that the pastors can use them to disciple their people. Translation is not easy work, and it can be very monotonous at times, but getting resources like the Design for Discipleship series into the hands of Christians here is so essential to our service to the Body of Christ in Cambodia. These resources will help them grow in God’s Word and not be tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine.”

Flood Relief in the Philippines

Jeff Anderson Teaching

Jeff and Mary Ann Anderson, and the ACTION team in the Philippines, have been involved in relief work after Typhoon Washi struck December 16-18 and left flooding and devastation in its wake.

Jeff writes, “Mud, debris, dust, stagnant water and traumatized people are everywhere. Entire communities are washed out. Many lives are lost and unaccounted for. Last week ACTION’s Street Impact Team, along with Christian Growth Ministries and Full Life Counseling Center, ministered in Cagayan De Oro City in partnership with Mindanao Street Children Ministries Network.

“We surveyed many devastated areas, heard mind-boggling stories from rescuers and survivors, gave 300 bags of relief items to families residing in temporary evacuation centers, distributed school supplies to 147 students, trained over 40 pastors and church workers to do trauma debriefing, and debriefed 157 adults and children.

“We plan to return February 20 to do more trauma debriefing, train more people how to debrief others, have a conference for pastors and workers and give them books because they lost precious books in the flood waters, and do a seminar on how to use the Life Application Study Bible giving each participant a copy.”

Bikes for Cuban Pastors

Five Recipients

Brian Stewart, ACTION Cuba Director, writes, “Many Cuban pastors ACTION works with travel long distances on foot and on public transportation in order to minister at the churches and mission stations they are responsible for.

“A bike allows a pastor to accomplish more by reducing his travel time between home and church, and helps him visit more people from his congregation. It also makes family errands such as grocery shopping and taking the kids to school much easier and quicker.

“And, just as importantly, it will be a great encouragement to a tireless worker, who makes less than $20 per month on average. The gift of a bike will be a motivation to ‘keep working for the Lord’ even in the most difficult of circumstances.

“Pastor Angel Morales wrote us a thank-you note recently which said, ‘I will use this bike to the fullest extent to serve Jesus. With my salary, I could have never afforded to buy this bicycle.’

“ACTION can purchase and deliver a durable, high-quality bike to a Cuban pastor for $199.

“This amount provides the best bicycles available in Cuba, which are normally imported from China (a country which knows a thing or two about bikes). By Cuban standards, they are ‘top of the line.’

“We have delivered over two dozen bikes so far and are eager to help more pastors. Won’t you join us in this worthy endeavor? When you partner with us in this this special project we will send you a picture of the pastor receiving the bike you provided.

“In eleven years of ministry in Cuba, ACTION has established ministry partnerships with many denominational leaders, who are all assisting us in selecting the neediest pastors to be blessed by this project.

“We will be distributing the bikes among a number of denominations we work with, so if you have a preference that your gift go toward one of the specific groups listed below, please email me at brian@actionusa.org and I will make sure your specific designation is carried out.

“Thank you and God bless you for your love and concern for Cuban pastors!”

Preparing for Ministry in Uganda

Joe and Susan Rieger

Joe and Susan Rieger and their children are new ACTION missionaries preparing to serve the Lord in Gulu, Uganda. They will minister to orphans, child mothers, former soldiers and those with HIV-AIDS. Joe and Susan wrote the following as they prepare for their flight to Uganda on January 28:

“Over three years ago we applied with ACTION to join the work in Gulu. It has been truly incredible for our family to experience growth and to see God work among His people. These past years have deepened our awareness of our absolute dependence on the Lord every day. Nothing happens that is outside of His control. Each part of this process has been a gift from God’s sovereign hand. We serve an awesome God!

“There is so much to do as we prepare to leave our home in Oregon and move to Africa. We will need grace as we adapt to a new culture, set up our new home, and begin our ministry overseas. We cannot wait to share the stories we will have of God’s goodness in the days to come in Gulu!”
