Camp Ciyanjano Needs Your Support

Camp Ciyanjano has been serving the ministries of ACTION Zambia and hundreds of local churches since our official dedication in October 2011. Camp Ciyanjano also serves our youth discipleship program, the Ciyanjano Champs, who serve partner churches with evangelistic outreaches at community schools and churches, through door-to-door evangelism, and with street kids. They also serve the Kingdom by providing leadership for Ciyanjano’s own camps three times a year. Ciyanjano is where Kelly and Tricia Huckaby and their five children live and serve through multiple Bible studies for teens, the Ciyanjano staff, and for women in the community.

Due to a regional drought from 2023-2024 that destroyed more than half of the staple crop causing rising prices of food and because Zambia is 90% hydro-powered, we’re facing up to 21 hours a day without power. This is causing supply chain disruptions, rising fuel prices, increased crime, and unemployment, due to businesses not having power to operate. Ciyanjano primarily serves churches from the city’s dense, urban poor communities, called compounds; these churches are also facing the same challenges and don’t have "extra" income for having camp. We also run a maize (corn) mill to generate income, but with a poor harvest and major power cuts, we're not able to see profit from there either. Camp Ciyanjano needs your support.

So, while we have less income from local churches, Ciyanjano has fixed or rising costs for contracts, food, and transportation for our staff and volunteers and ongoing costs for running the ministries of Champs, camps, and Bible studies.

We desperately need a combination of one-time gifts and new monthly donors to keep Ciyanjano operational for it to keep bearing fruit in Lusaka and in our community. Please consider supporting these ministries and the many churches, teens, workers, Champs, and future church leaders by giving to Camp Ciyanjano.

Major needs include monthly donors to help cover the rising costs of maintenance and of fuel, power, food, and transportation and to keep our staff working to maintain the grounds and serve churches when they come to camp. ($20,000)

Above and beyond our basic facility and staff needs, we have some major maintenance needs, including:

- Replacing the thatch roof on one of the huts that can house guests and future missionaries. ($3,000)

- Installing more solar panels and power storage and possibly purchasing a diesel generator to power our water pumps. ($8,000)

- Possible re-drilling of our well to a deeper depth and installing a new casing to protect it against flooding. ($6,000)

Zambia: Camp Ciyanjano

“Ciyanjano” means “fellowship,” and that is what this Christian Campground and Conference center is all about.

Kids and Staff at Ciyanjano

ACTION Zambia has developed a 20-acre property in the rural outskirts of Lusaka. Our mission is to provide local churches, especially those in poor areas of Lusaka, with an affordable facility for Christian camps and conferences. It is also used as a training ground for the Champs Program, which equips youth in evangelism skills to share with other youth.

The camp grounds include the Ripley Center which is constantly used for retreats, conferences, and trainings. There is a larger campground area with an outdoor chapel, two classrooms, five camping chalets, an outdoor kitchen, a large restroom and shower building, and a playground.  The campground sleeps 150.

Ciyanjano is partially self-sustaining through its maize (corn) shelling and hammer mill business. And it is a blessing to the community by offering free access to a clean water tap and a soccer pitch for community games.

Camp Ciyanjano is a vital ministry for the ACTION Zambia team and a significant service to the community. It offers a multitude of opportunities to fellowship, train, and rest that is unusual in this part of the world. Supporting the camp and its activities is a way of significantly caring for God’s people in an area of the world that is challenging and in need of opportunity.
