Brazil: ABBA - Children in Care

Send a Note Start a Campaign

We believe that Jesus Christ's church has a fundamental role to play in responding to the crisis of children in need.

We are actively involved in challenging the Brazilian church to be His heart, hands and feet to transform individuals and the whole of society.  God “places the lonely in families” (Ps. 68:5).

History of ABBA

ABBA is a ministry founded by ACTION workers in 1993 to show God’s love to the thousands of children and adolescents living on the streets in the impoverished urban sprawl of São Paulo, Brazil. During its first decade ABBA developed several different homes to care for these children and reach their families.

Today

ABBA focuses its residential care efforts into two areas:  Casa Elohim, established in 2005, offers residential care of orphaned children.  Casa Elohim currently serves twenty children, both boys and girls, of all ages. Many of the children have complex needs due to living on the streets, abandonment by their parents, experiencing trauma and abuse. The staff seeks to reintegrate the children into their family of origin if possible or prepare them for adoption.

Projeto Perolas, established in 2009, is a pioneering effort focusing on developing foster care in Brazil. To this day it continues to serve as a cutting-edge ministry that challenges the traditional mold of caring for children in orphanages, and recognizing the benefits of family life in the healing and developmental of children.

Through foster and residential care, ABBA has served over 200 abandoned, abused, and neglected children and their families since its founding.
