Cuba: Where Most Needed
Donations to this account provide the extra money our teams need in order to assist our colleagues when they find themselves in some sort of crisis.
Here is an example of how these funds are used, from Brian Stewart’s November, 2011 trip report:
“Pastor Yoan and his wife, Karina, are key colleagues who have helped us host several events. Earlier this year they opened their church, and supervised a team of volunteers, so ACTION could host over 200 pastors and ministers for an interdenominational conference.
“On this latest trip I found out that they have been sleeping on a mattress on their living room floor for about a year. Karina’s mom has cancer and they have given up their bed so she can be more comfortable.
“Given their tireless work at the church, I would not have imagined that at home they were also working around the clock to care for Karina’s mom. An opportunity came up for the mom to spend a month with relatives who live about seven hours away. Mom loved the idea, and I could see from the tired expression on their faces that Yoan and Karina would rejoice at having a month to themselves. But even if someone loaned them a car, the cost of the gasoline to make that trip would be two month’s salary.
“I spent some time encouraging them and sharing with them my own stepdad’s devotion to my mom as she needed round-the-clock care during her battle with cancer. Then, thanks to the ‘where most needed’ fund, I reached into my pocket and gave them enough for the trip, and for a nice meal along the way, and a little extra for whatever else might come up.”
The Where Most Needed fund is also regularly used to purchase medication and vitamins, specially requested Bible study books, and reading glasses.
