Abandoned… neglected… abused… hidden… disowned… killed…
His mother died soon after his surgery for hydrocephalus when he was 2 years old. His father, overwhelmed by his son’s needs, abandoned him. Years later, his great-aunt found him sitting in the dirt outside of his father’s hut and took him into his care. At the age of 11, he stood on his feet for the first time and attended school for the first time. His is a story of joy, hope, and salvation as his rescue by his Christ-loving great-aunt brought him also to the Lord.
Children with disabilities face a bleak future in much of sub-Saharan Africa. We are called to minister to these precious children and their families.
ACTION Uganda’s Disability Ministry seeks to equip families to care for their own children with disabilities as we proclaim God’s greatness and sovereignty over disabilities and suffering.
The ministry includes: supporting the special education program at Jesus is the Truth nursery and primary school, providing support to the Outreach Team for the children with special needs and disabilities within our sponsorship program, networking and promoting awareness of resources available to the community in Uganda, and a community outreach program design to proclaim the Gospel, disciple families, and equip families to care for their unique children.
Dr. Rattin focused on teaching and equipping Ugandans to minister within their own communities and proclaim the Gospel boldly, even in difficult situations. She headed out of Uganda in September of 2016.
