Note: ServeNow is not an ACTION ministry, but a ministry partner with ACTION, serving the poor around the world. Contact ACTION Canada for more information.
1) History and Background:
In 2013, Lars Dunberg, and his daughter Maria, started the ministry. Lars has spent 50 years serving in global ministry, 45 of those together with his wife Doreen. Knowing parts of the world such as India, Uganda, Ukraine and Nepal, where many great needs still exist, as well as local churches and leaders that need someone to come alongside them to train and empower them to serve within their contexts and countries, ServeNow began assisting…and quickly grew beyond expectations!
Due to this growth, Ben Foley was approached by Lars to be trained by him for a couple years to step into his role as president, which has now occurred. MediaServe, now a division of ServeNow came on board in February of 2016. MediaServe focuses on producing and distributing innovative Christian literature and other media materials in 45 languages with an impact in over 30 countries in 20 years time.
The people of this world are still in desperate need of the Good News – whether in word or in deed – and ServeNow is committed to making a difference, one life at a time.
2) What is the ministry doing now?
ServeNow is partnering closely with 1,000 churches around the world. Beginning with providing a Bible to members in each congregation who do not have their own, ServeNow then equips each church with a series of thirty basic foundational booklets (in 13 languages) called “The Basic Things You Need to Know” over a period of 5-7 years. At the same time ServeNow partners with these same churches to reach out to serve their communities in a variety of ways. Through clean water, medical clinic’s, summer camps, disaster relief, humanitarian aid, anti-trafficking skill training programs, winter coverings and more, the church is able to tangibly and practically demonstrate and show God’s love.
3) ServeNow, with MediaServe, plans to do more going forward to get the Word of God/Gospel to Arabic speaking refugee’s in Europe and also those in the Middle East. Farsi (for Iranians) is also a focus going forward. Myanmar, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay are also focuses for the future in serving orphans and getting God’s Word to more people as funding permits.
