Barbara was born and raised in southern California. She moved to Canada after completing graduate studies in education in the San Francisco area. She taught elementary and special needs classes for 15 years. Also, she has taught classes in elementary and special education at the university level for seven years. Barbara felt the call to overseas missions work in 1994 and joined ACTION in 1995. Though the original call was to Rwanda, she joined the Philippine team in 1998 and worked as Financial Manager in the Manila office for two years, joining outreach ministries as time permitted.
After furlough in 2000, she returned to the Philippines and to full time language study. It was at the end of her studies that an opportunity for future ministry was presented to her. A number of sewing machines were made available to ACTION and in April, 2003, Mustard Seed Vocational/Discipleship program was started for out-of-school young women. She looks forward to ministering to the needs of all ages of women through Mustard Seed.
