Alternán and Arelis Claro

Send a Note Start a Campaign

Alternán became a Christian when he was 18 by reading the New Testament. Arelis was born into a Christian family, and her parents were Christian workers. They met in 1989 during their time at the Nazarene Bible Institute in Punta Brava, Cuba and were married in 1991. The next year, they began their pastoral ministry.

In 2000, they became acquainted with Brian Stewart and learned about Action International Ministries while they were pastoring in Santiago de Cuba. At that time, they began collaborating in the development of several ACTION ministries.

The Claros left their pastorate in July 2002 to accept executive positions in their national denomination. Alternán served as Executive Secretary until 2012 and Arelis as Youth Director until 2014; she continues as Children's Director.

These responsibilities have allowed them to introduce ACTION at the highest levels of their own and other denominations on the island. They have a broad vision for strengthening ACTION's work and have dedicated themselves to the mission full time since 2013, gradually accepting greater responsibilities.

Alternán and Arelis now serve as National Coordinators of ACTION Cuba under the direction of Brian and Celia Stewart. They supervise ACTION’s three area coordinators on the island. They are thus aware of the needs of Christians throughout Cuba and have taken their interdenominational approach into new developments, including outreach to unbelievers.

They have coordinated the ministries of many short-term teams visiting Cuba since 2000, making it possible for ACTION to make available dozens of events such as conferences, seminars, workshops, camps, retreats, and the like, offered to pastors, couples, youth, children, retired Christian works, single mothers, and others. They have distributed hundreds of bicycles to pastors and evangelists and distributed special offerings from many ACTION donors to those in need.

Alternán directs ACTION's publications division. This outreach has supplied helpful Bible study books to pastors, seminary students, evangelists, church leaders, couples, children, and youth in many localities throughout Cuba.

The Claros have a passion for building up the people of God, helping those in need, and providing lodging in their guest house for brethren attending ACTION events.

The couple resides in Camagüey with their two children (Martha Beatriz and Moisés) and one grandson (Samuel).

Donations for this couple would be welcome and are important for them to continue working with the mission.
