Ben and Jucelia live and minister in Heliopolis, Sao Paulo; one of the largest slums in Latin America. Their focus is on the poor and unreached in an urban setting. They have partnered with a local church to build, train, and implement an evangelistic outreach directed principally towards underprivileged children.
They currently have about 25 volunteers on their team, all from the local church, and are running three different evangelistic sites: the first site is at a soccer court in the middle of the slum, the second is in a square at one of the government housing projects, and the third is a new outreach underneath a bridge in the city center, reaching out to immigrants and a community living underneath the bridge.
They also run a visitation program to the families, a breakfast feeding service on Saturday mornings, a discipleship program for kids interested in knowing Christ more intimately, and run a yearly camp program as well. They have also provided training and support for interested churches in beginning their own outreaches to communities close to them.
Their ministry is summed up in Matt 22:9-10, ‘Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find. So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.”
