My name is Hannah Lindsey. I will be graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in social work from Northwestern College in May 2019. I am originally from Omaha, NE but have lived the last four years in Orange City, IA as I have attended college. I am currently finishing up my degree in Denver, CO where I am interning at a school for pregnant and parenting teenagers. I was intending to go immediately from undergrad to a graduate degree; however, in the summer of 2018, my plans changed. I felt the overwhelming need to take a break in my schooling. I was conflicted and felt lost until I was presented with the opportunity to spend a year in Paraguay providing support for Rene and Anja Gaonas both with their son and Anja’s work with child advocacy. I have worked with children for several years and greatly enjoy watching them grow and develop. Along with this, one of my passions in social work is advocacy and working to ensure that everyone not only has a voice but that their voice is heard. As soon as I heard about this opportunity and spoke with Anja, I knew that God was calling me to go to Paraguay. I am looking forward to working closely with Anja and getting to spend quality time with her and her son. I know this year will be challenging, but it will also be a great learning experience.
