In 2019, I found myself at a crossroads. I was about to finish nine years of service in the Coast Guard and really didn’t know what plans or purpose God had for my life. I planned on taking about three months to travel the world and hopefully “find myself”.

I made two big decisions in the weeks that led up to the end of my time with the Coast Guard. First, I decided that for the time being, I would stay where I was in the New Orleans area of Louisiana because I had found good friends and a solid church community. Second, and most importantly, I decided to forgo my much-anticipated global trek for something I hadn’t even considered: spending two weeks with a missionary family in Brazil.

The two weeks I spent in Brazil was a life-changer for me as someone who had never even considered the possibility of global mission’s work. I realized that there is a big world out there and God needs people to GO! I fell in love with the people and culture and was trying to figure out how to return to São Paulo before I even left.

I now have the opportunity to return to São Paulo! For approximately three months I will be working with a team at Casa Semear in ministering to at-risk children, youth, and families from the surrounding area. I am humbled to have this opportunity and I can’t wait to see what God has in store.
