It was July 2013 on a two-week mission trip to Cuba that I first thought about becoming a teacher.  I had my first experience teaching at a local VBS the week before and then I had the opportunity to help at more VBS camps in Cuba, and again in 2015 in Mexico. I have always loved working with kids, and I remember thinking that teaching English would be a great way to spread the gospel.  Three years later I started school to become a teacher.  My intention was to major in Elementary Education with a minor in TESOL, but due to some unexpected circumstances both at home and at work, I chose to focus on my minor/certificate program since all the classes for TESOL were offered online.  I finished the TESOL program as an exchange student in Japan Fall 2018, and then after taking a year off from school I transferred to a completely online university to start my major.  I am currently about halfway through my program and expect to graduate sometime in 2022, after which I hope to join the ministry either as an English teacher or as an elementary teacher for the children of missionaries.

I have been given a wonderful opportunity to go with the Taylor family on a short term-mission trip to the Philippines in March 2020.  We will be there for two weeks. During my time there, I will get to see most of the missionaries and ACTION’s ministries in the Philippines. Some of the ministries will be too far to get to since they are spread throughout this Pacific island nation, however, we will also attend the annual ACTION Philippine Field conference near the end of the two weeks where I will get to interact with some of the people I missed seeing. As we travel and visit everyone, I will be assisting Catherine and Rob with their three children.
