Doug & Katia Flowers - Thailand

Background

Doug – I came to Christ through the influence of a missionary family and Christian teachers while teaching in northern Saskatchewan. I was initially Catholic, so it took over half a year to understand the Gospel and my need for a Saviour. I accepted Christ on Easter morning in 1989. After I finished my teaching contract, I enrolled at Prairie Bible Institute to learn more about missions and how to be a Christian teacher. My wife Katia and I met and married at Prairie.

Katia - My mother and aunt led me to the Lord while attending university in Brazil. I had been experiencing much anguish, so my aunt invited me to visit her church in the countryside. I accepted Jesus and started a prayer and fasting campaign. When I prayed God’s Word, that anguish went away for a while, so I prayed the Word several times a day. After several weeks, I returned to my aunt’s town, and the Pastor prayed for me. When I woke up the following day, all my anguish was gone. I realized the evangelical faith was genuine and decided to pursue it.

I joined the Intervarsity Fellowship and started leading prayer for missions. Fascinated by missionary testimonies, I went on short-term missions and committed to a life of service. To serve the Lord better, I attended Prairie Graduate School in Canada.

After Doug and Katia met, we started seeking the Lord regarding which mission to join and where to go. He led us step by step, and we have served God in Nepal, China, and Thailand. We feel honoured to have served God in Asia for 29 years.

Current role in ministry:

Our heart's passion is twofold:

a. To reach students and teachers for Christ in international schools. We are “tent-makers,” and the school setting provides ideal opportunities for witnessing and discipling, opening doors to impact teachers, students, and their families. We integrate the truth into our classes and serve in weekly Bible studies and clubs for children and adults.

b) To develop a love of learning in people, equipping teachers and church leaders and raising educational and ethical standards. We train teachers, teach church leaders the Bible, and counsel those in need.

Prayer Items:

Please pray for favour, open doors, and open hearts so that we can do God’s will at our international school.
Pray that the Lord will bring students, parents, and teachers to know Him and cause them to grow in Jesus’ likeness.
