Philippines: Shalom Christian Birthing Home Operating Expenses

Start a Campaign
Shalom Christian Birthing Home is a medical ministry in Antipolo, Philippines, which has been “Delivering Hope” for the urban poor since 1992, through evangelism and quality maternity care.

Shalom was founded by Mavis Orton, an ACTION missionary midwife, in response to high maternal and newborn mortality rates and scarce medical resources for the poor. During Shalom’s first 20 years, Mavis trained over a dozen exceptional Filipino nurses and midwives, and filled a crucial gap in the healthcare system while also connecting innumerable families to Christ.

Shalom is now run by a skilled and compassionate team of Filipino midwives and support staff, many of whom served with Mavis during Shalom’s early years, and has expanded its services to provide comprehensive maternity and newborn care. In 2026, in response to government restrictions on birthing homes that dramatically limited our ability to serve the poor, Shalom transitioned to all outpatient medical services. While we no longer deliver babies, we continue to provide hundreds of monthly outpatient visits including prenatal and postpartum care, health education, and cervical cancer screening. Shalom additionally provides newborn care including check-ups, breastfeeding support, hearing tests and newborn screens. Our “Little Warriors” ministry additionally provides ongoing financial, spiritual, and medical support to babies born with complex medical needs.

Most importantly, Shalom strives to leverage every patient interaction to lead families into loving relationships with Jesus, and to connect them to local church families. We do this through daily Bible studies, prayer with each patient, patient home visits, evangelistic Baby Showers, and partnerships with a wide fellowship of local pastors who are committed to long-term spiritual follow-up of our patients.

Your donations allow us to continue to provide compassionate, comprehensive medical care to women and children, as well as allow our spiritual ministries to continue. Thank you for equipping us for this precious work!
