Thomas & Susanna Smoak

Thomas and Susanna and their six children lived and worked in São Paulo, Brazil from 1995 until 2016. For 14 years, they directed the ministry of ABBA (www.abbabrasil.com.br), an interdenominational Brazilian outreach to abandoned children and their families. In 2010, the Smoaks turned this ministry over to local leadership, and Thomas began to serve ACTION as the Regional Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean. In this role, the Smoaks cared for more than 50 gospel workers stationed in Central and South America as well as prayerfully worked toward developing new fields and sending offices in the region. In March 2016, Thomas became ACTION’s third International Director. They lived in Wheaton, Illinois until 2021 when Calvary International Church in São Paulo, Brazil asked Thomas to serve as interim pastor. They accepted the challenge and, even though the church now has a permanent pastor, the Smoak family continues to live and minister in São Paulo.
