Joseph & Cynthia Omodia

My name is Joseph and I'm married to Cynthia Tania. We have three daughters, Peggy 10 years old, Patricia 8 years old and Brincy 18 months old.  We live and serve in Kenya on Mfangano Island in Lake Victoria.

I met the Lord as my personal Savior in June 1991. I became active in local evangelism and developed a great zeal to serve the Lord. I was involved in Bible Translation and Bible teaching over the radio where I interacted with missionaries from African Inland Missions, Summer Institute of Linguistics, Bible Translations and Literacy of East Africa and Wycliffe Bible translators.

Through this work I began to sense a call to missions, but had no direction on how I could become a missionary. One day I hosted a servant of God who was from South Africa. He needed a place to stay for one week on his way to Germany. This is the man God used to connect me to a missions school and Cross-Cultural studies in southern African countries where I did the study in six countries.

This is where I realized the full call of missions, but then remained not knowing about a missionary sending organization. One day I met Action International Ministries online and I officially became a missionary through ACTION.

We are involved in a variety of ministries including:

Pastoral Leadership Development (PLD):

80% of Kenyan church leaders come from rural churches and have no formal theological training. So we disciple church leaders through Zoom to equip them with Biblical knowledge and skills.

We pray for financial support to buy Bibles for these church leaders and also for financial support to help us further reach them through Evangelism and Conferences. This support will also help us and our teams coordinate and manage this great ministry among the rural and slum regions of Kenya.

Women Ministry:

In Kenya women are also not exposed to Biblical training so we train women through Zoom in a one-year training in evangelism, discipleship. It is also our desire to develop them community outreach in partnership with local churches.  Because many women don't possess Bibles, we  sometimes buy them Bibles. Support for this is also much needed. The cost of one bible is $12.

Also, the population of widows, single mothers and poor women is alarming, we sometimes help to support them to feed their families. Having more partners to help us in this way is also a need.

Youths Ministry:

We minister to youth through evangelism and are praying for funds to help us reach them through camps. Youth in our country struggle with hopelessness as a result of poverty and many indulge in sexual activities in exchange for money, especially to the girls. Many girls drop out of school and get married young. Boys also get married young and often times get involved in drug use. Please prayerfully consider supporting our youth camps as it's in these camps where they will meet spiritual leaders who will lead them to Christ and disciple them.

Children Ministry:

We also reach children in schools and mentor them in knowing God. We conduct feeding programs in schools because 70% of school children don’t have food for their lunch break.  The feeding program has increased the population in schools because many children drop out due to a lack of sustenance. We are praying for assistance in school fees as 40% of Primary school students don't proceed to high school or college because of a lack of finances.

We also reach children at risk who are abandoned and orphans. We help them find a place to live and go to school or get them to a children centre to feed them. We appeal to partners who can help us support these at risk children so they can be well fed and achieve their dreams of getting a good education.
