Belen Tacuba

Hello! My name is Belen and I am a 5th semester nursing student at Biola! I was born and raised in California with both of my parents and my younger sister. My mother is from El Salvador and my father is from Mexico. So, I was introduced to different cultures early on. My mom loved to cook and discovering new recipes from different cultures. Her openness to discover and embrace new cultures sparked my interest in other cultures.

This distance placement opportunity will be unique and my first time traveling to a different country for a month. This would also be my first medical missions experience and I am eager to partner with and learn from the team at Shalom. Not only am I eager to learn about the medical aspect of things, but I am also eager to learn more about filipino culture.

In the future of my nursing career, I would like to be part of a medical missions ministry. This experience would be my first opportunity toward that calling. I am eager to be part of this experience and this is completely new for my family and I. I would like to ask to keep my family in prayer that the Lord may keep them in peace while I am away. I also would like prayer for an open heart and strength to serve and learn from each team member and each experiences the Lord should allow. Finally, your prayers for God’s provision for this trip are much appreciated.
