Mexico: Live Missionally in Baja: Serve in San Quintín Valley

OVERVIEW: Come serve with us in the beautiful San Quintín Valley of Baja, Mexico! Nestled between the Pacific Ocean, ancient volcanoes, and rich farmland, our ministry has been rooted in this community for over 40 years. As an intern, you’ll share meals with local families, help disciple new believers, teach English or Bible studies, serve children and indigenous workers, and join hands in practical projects that meet real community needs. Whether through sharing the gospel, repairing a home, teaching CPR, or leading kids at VBS, BS, you’ll learn how to live missionally in everyday life. Join us in bringing the hope of Christ to this vibrant and diverse region!

Q & A with ACTION field workers Matthew & Elvia Tinney

1. What are some ministry tasks that you want the intern to accomplish while serving with you?

Interns may serve in one or more of the following areas, depending on their gifts, skills, and availability:

Discipleship & Bible Teaching

• Assist in discipling men and women in the local church, particularly new believers.

• Help lead Bible studies (including a Spanish Gospel of Mark study).

• Support VBS programs and children’s ministries in local churches.

Community Outreach

• Build relationships with indigenous farm workers through home visits, small groups, and shared meals.

• Participate in evangelism through hospitality such as community dinners, bonfires, and fellowship.

• Assist in community service projects: beautification, helping elderly families with property clean-up, or mural/park

projects.

Educational & Medical Projects

• Teach ESL classes in partnership with local schools and churches.

• Help organize short-term VBS or educational programs.

• Participate in medical/dental outreach (most requested locally), including first responder training (CPR, drowning pre-

vention, first aid, trauma care, dog bites, fever control).

Practical & Administrative Help

• Support logistical and administrative tasks for mission teams and material distribution (e.g., theological resources like

Westminster Seminary materials.

• Use basic handyman skills for small repairs, setting up ministry spaces, or assisting families with practical needs.

2. What are some key lessons from your ministry and walk with the Lord that you want to impart to the interns to help them as they consider their own individual call to missions or vocational ministry?

• The centrality of the gospel in transforming lives and communities.

• How to serve humbly in a cross-cultural, low-resource environment.

• Living missionally in everyday life.

• Learning that “God is most glorified in us

when we are most satisfied in Him.”

• Practicing contextualized ministry —helping, not “Americanizing.”
