South Africa: Serve Children and Families in South Africa

OVERVIEW: Come and use your gifts and serve with us at Greensleeves Children’s Trust – a pioneering project where we use sustainable solutions at a school orphanage in beautiful East London, South Africa. This is more than just a program—it is a Christ-centered community where discipleship is woven into every part of daily life. Children are nurtured, leaders are raised up, and families are strengthened. Through feeding, teaching, farming, healthcare, and pastoral training, the ministry reflects “the different faces of love”—sometimes easy, sometimes hard, but always grounded in the truth of God’s Word.

Q & A with ACTION field workers Matheus and Juliana Negri

1. What are some ministry tasks that you want the intern to accomplish while serving with you?

Children & Education

• Feeding Program: Interns can help with two village feeding programs, providing daily meals for 450 children.

• School & Devotions: Interns can share devotionals with students before the school day starts.

• Teacher Support: Volunteers can assist in classrooms, especially with TESOL, math, art, or sports.

• After-School Activities: We’d love to have interns help with sports, our Bible club, and the Friday fellowship time, where we encourage the community and provide mentorship and discipleship.

• Bible Clubs: Interns can disciple older students as they disciple younger ones through the Word.

• Trauma & Mental Health Care: Training for teachers to work with children facing trauma or mental illness.

Community Development & Agriculture

• Food Security and Hands-On Farming: Volunteers—retired farmers, young people, or short-term groups—You are welcome to serve, especially during planting and harvest seasons at our banana farms and vegetable farms gardens, which help sustain the program (two-week trips would be possible)

• Skill Sharing: Trainers in agriculture and vocational skills are invited to help us build long-term sustainability.

Healthcare

• Medical Volunteers: Doctors, psychologists, and other health professionals can serve at the school and in public hospitals, which are often overwhelmed.

Pastoral Training

• Equipping Leaders: Many local pastors lack access to a formal Bible college or seminary.

• Training Opportunities: Both online and in-person training are offered.

• Church Planting & Development: Collaboration with the Baptist Convention supports missions, discipleship, and mobilization.
