ACTION Disaster Response in India and Bangladesh

ACTION Disaster Response in India and Bangladesh

One month ago, Cyclone Fani struck parts of India and Bangladesh with devastating impact, causing a large swath of destruction. We praise God that ACTION members and those whom they serve were protected physically, but the losses were still great. ACTION is providing funds for home repairs and assistance for believers who lost their crops.

One ACTION member shared a story of D.R., a formerly devout Hindu, and his wife who had strictly followed the tenets of their beliefs. D.R. had grown jaded, believing that, while he tried his best to please the Hindu gods, they seemed indifferent to his plight. ACTION personnel shared with D.R. about his sin against a holy God and that God sent His Son to the cross for the payment of his sins. D.R. cried as the power of the Gospel resonated with him.

D.R. and his family believed, were baptized, and began to boldly proclaim the Good News, only to face great opposition from other family and friends, but he remained strong. “Compared to Jesus, my suffering is nothing, as the world hates those who follow Jesus.” Last month, D.R. also lost his home as a result of Cyclone Fani.

Pray: Please pray for D.R. and others like him--believers who desire to remain faithful through the midst of persecution and personal loss. The loss of a home or destruction of a season’s worth of crops is particularly acute for farmers working without margins; and for believers in a hostile culture, personal suffering can be seen as a natural result of the abandonment of their traditional faith.

In India, ACTION personnel have operated a home and business for women whose husbands had been martyred for their faith. The storm devastated the residential building and damaged the business. While the women and children are safe in temporary housing, the center must be rebuilt.

Pray: We are called, as the Church, to care for widows and orphans. Pray that believers around the world would be moved to give generously.

Please consider partnering with ACTION as we seek to minister to these widows and brothers, such as D.R. who have been affected by this trial.
