Helping Those in Need

Helping Those in Need

Over the past year, through the support of a church in Manila, our ministry has been able to provide medicine for a child who has been suffering from seizures. Her grandmother is her sole caregiver.

A couple of weeks into the quarantine, Greg visited them to help the grandmother buy the medicine. When visiting, he would always take extra food for her, since she is not able to work washing clothes as she previously did. However, there are about 12 families in her community who are in the same situation as her. It was heartbreaking and, frankly, awkward to be helping this one family, while so many others had little to nothing.

"How to respond? We knew we needed to help, but how should we go about it?"

One day, Sam (our oldest child), knowing the need of many families around us, said he wanted to take up an offering at the church service we have been having with the families who live inside our campus. He wrote up something, stood up with Dad, and had him read it to everyone. Sam and Asher also opened their piggy banks to contribute to the offering. Those gifts, along with money from a recent collection of coconuts, was enough to buy a sack of rice, some canned goods, and noodles for 16 families!

I wish you could have been there when we told the families that the Lord spoke to a 7-year old to provide food for them! They said,

"If God can speak to a 7-year old, He can speak to me also!"

And so began our relief efforts! For the past two weeks, we have distributed grocery bags worth around $10 USD or $14 CAD to approximately 50 families from that community and two others near us. We plan to do this weekly until people can return to work.
