Sustainability in the Clouds

Sustainability in the Clouds

Have you ever physically lived in the clouds? Our recent trip to Ecuador took us high up into the mountains above the city of Quito. For 2 weeks we woke up at 10,500 ft or 3,200 meters above sea level. We literally watched clouds pass us by as we strolled around our neighborhood.

Among other things, we worked with a church there to present a 10-day workshop on Sustainability. The course shows people how to embrace all the resources God has supplied us through His creation mostly through local resources. It also presented ideas on how churches can use this approach to share the Gospel of Christ and make disciples. Half the time was in the classroom learning concepts, designs and applications of sustainability. The other half of the time we built a food forest on a property nearby.

Participants were excited and worked hard each day to learn sustainability skills and make sure we had a baby food forest set up by the end of the course. They shared their appreciation for the training and Pastor Christian invited us to return for more ministry in the future.

Our team of four included Lorna and Martin Scholz (me) as well as Liselle Thibault from Three Hills and Rick Maxwell, our team leader.
