Rene & Anja Gaona

Send a Note Start a Campaign

René and Anja Gaona are local missionaries under Action International Ministries, at home in the city of Asunción, Paraguay, with their active 3-year old son Santiago, and expecting baby Sofía in July, 2021.

René lives out a strong calling and vision from God to reach teens, their families and communities through holistic development and discipleship.  He has worked with national organizations such as Youth Impact, Jesus Responds to Today’s World and DISCOVER, partnering with churches across the country to carry out evangelism and discipleship in innovative ways. The experience and connections made over the past 15 years have opened many doors to expanding this ministry.

Presently, he is spearheading a new initiative called, “Love for a Thousand Generations” to serve as a bridge for local churches that want to develop more holistic outreach to their surrounding at-risk communities, living out Jesus’ love in real and practical ways. His role is to walk alongside local teams in this process, coaching and connecting them to effective programs that sustainably respond to the needs of the people, socially and spiritually. René is also excited to recently lead a DISCOVER youth base in the interior of Paraguay, building up a local leadership while engaging with unreached teens and connecting with their families.

From an early age, Anja is passionate about God’s heart for protecting more vulnerable kids in loving families, and was trained across the globe with YWAM. By profession, she is a lawyer registered in Paraguay, specializing in children’s rights and family-based care, with experience as director of Viva Network in Paraguay, in government offices for adoptions and alternative care, internationally in the human rights system (IACHR), and as an consultant for children’s homes etc. to bridge the gap between laws and their implementation for the wellbeing of children.

Anja now serves on the coordination team of the Paraguay Protects Families (PPF), a nationwide movement they helped start in 2016 as part of World Without Orphans (WWO), engaging the local Church across the board so that every child is cared for in a safe and loving family, and know God as their Heavenly Father. She helps lead initiatives to prevent violence and strengthen at risk families, as well as develop foster care, adoptions and support for kids that are living in children’s homes, while leading similar initiatives in Latin America as WWO ambassador.

“We simply seek to serve in our country, using our God-given gifts and talents to reach others, as part of the Church’s calling. Join us.”
