Uganda: Pastoral Leadership Development - Northern Region

Start a Campaign
Pastoral Leadership Development focuses on training, discipling, and equipping Ugandan pastors, who otherwise do not have access to Biblical training, to lead their congregations through Christ-centered and Bible-centered teaching and preaching.

Due in part to a decade of war, most pastors in northern Uganda have not had the opportunity to receive much schooling, especially seminary or Bible school. Limited understanding of the Gospel, limited literacy, and deeply engrained animistic beliefs are many of the challenges encountered by local pastors.

Pastoral Leadership Development in Gulu is focused on discipleship of individuals, raising up leaders among the Acholi people to equip fellow pastors to proclaim the Word of God with faithfulness and accuracy.

We desire to see the local churches take on ministries to the poor, the widows, and the orphans in their midst. We desire to equip lay-leaders and pastors to care for their congregation in God-honoring ways by revealing, through Scripture, the true depth of God’s love, grace, and mercy for His chosen people.

Our focus is growing in depth of understanding the Gospel of Jesus Christ in order to strengthen churches and families and share the answer to this world’s brokenness: Christ Jesus our Lord.

What we do:
  • Conferences for pastors in remote regions of Northern Uganda, extending to pastors from Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.
  • One-on-one discipleship and small class for core ACTION Gulu staff, equipping them to teach others.
  • Hands-on, supervised teaching experiences in prisons, home visits with HIV-affected families, and daily devotions for our own staff and missionaries.
  • Upcoming renovation of Pastoral Resource Library in the near future for church leaders in the community.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen (I Peter 4:10-11, ESV).
