Philippines: Second Mile Ministries

Send a Note Start a Campaign

Started in 1979 by some of the pioneering Action International Ministries missionaries, Second Mile Ministries has played an important role in training, equipping, and empowering through discipleship and vocational skills training programs. The purpose of these programs is to enable people to grow in their faith and give them the skills needed to faithfully serve God and provide for the needs of their family. Second Mile Ministries accomplishes this through various discipleship, and theological training programs (learn more here), and vocational skills training (learn more here).

Located about 50km south of the capital city of Manila, the beautiful Second Mile Ministries campus is also used for sports activities of other ministries, church camps, seminars and conferences.

How The Ministry Started

Second Mile Ministries started in 1974 when pastors of CGMinistries (CGM) were praying for a way to go the second mile for youth they had gone the first mile with through outreach and evangelism ministries in Manila and surrounding areas.

This vision was shared in the United States and Canada by ACTION missionaries.  God’s people responded to the call to support and go! The Second Mile Ministries property was purchased and began to be developed between 1978 - 1979.

The first group of 10 students started in 1979. Training courses were held regularly throughout the early 1980’s . Then under the leadership of another missionary , the program was renamed “Working Hands Discipleship and Vocational Training School” in 1991. Up to the Covid-19 pandemic, the program graduated 28 classes of students who studied various courses like automotive repair, woodworking, computer technology, and welding. Now the Working Hands vocational training continues as it is incorporated into our basic discipleship courses. You can learn more here.

Another program that was birthed at Second Mile Ministries campus was Honest Hands Discipleship Home. The program was started in the year 2000 to meet the growing need of discipleship for youth from difficult life situations being ministered to by various ACTION ministry outreach programs and partner churches ministering to the poor. The youth referred to Honest Hands were often street youth and out of school youth not able to finish their studies because of their challenging life situation.  The heart of the Honest Hands Discipleship Home ministry lives on in our foundational Christian discipleship courses and also in our theological and practical ministry courses. Our Mission

ACTION Second Mile Ministries is committed to equip and empower marginalized Filipinos through holistic discipleship.

We are going the Second Mile to transform lives and change situations (Matt. 5:41).

Our Vision

Marginalized people of society are equipped and empowered so that they maximize their God-given potential and experience holistic transformation.

Our Goals

1. Second Mile Ministries will create opportunities for people to maximize their potential for life skills, giving them the ability to maintain a good source of living, gain hope and be able to set in motion a plan for their lives that will bring a brighter future for themselves and their family.

2. Second Mile Ministries will prioritize discipleship training which will equip believers for Christian/church service, and help them experience holistic transformation - spiritual life, character, economic situation, being a blessing to others.

3. Second Mile will provide good systems and training modules for discipleship and teaching practical life skills to equip and empower marginalized people.

4. People would experience the presence of the Holy Spirit, follow the example of Christ, and further God's Kingdom purposes.
