Brazil: ABBA - Children in Care
ABBA’s mission is to reach out to children, adolescents and young people in situations of risk and social vulnerability in order to strengthen and restore their relationships.
History of ABBA
ABBA is a ministry founded by ACTION workers in 1993 to show God’s love to the thousands of children and adolescents living on the streets in the impoverished urban sprawl of São Paulo, Brazil. During its first decade ABBA developed several different homes to care for these children and reach their families.
Vision
ABBA’s mission is to be part of a national movement, creating and coordinating services in the areas of prevention, intervention, protection and training, in the context of risk and social vulnerability, so that every child, adolescent and young person in our country can develop fully in all dimensions of life, through a family life that meets their material, mental, emotional, social and moral needs, and by walking in closeness and fidelity to Jesus.
Today
ABBA has 13 ministry locations in 4 states in Brazil, with the goal to expand to every state in Brazil. Their ministries include foster care services, outreach and services to those living on the street, equipping of local leaders in trauma- informed care and offering job skills training for young adults, all of which focus on the vulnerable populations and children in Brazil with a Christian focus.
